Prize wheel, Joker offers and rewards: engagement without giveaways

Three ways to reward customers that stay fair and under your control: a daily prize wheel decided on the server, surprise Joker offers for quiet or frequent customers, and a rewards menu paid for in points.

Key points

  • Wheel results are drawn on the server, and customers can see each prize's chance.
  • Joker offers target customers who have gone quiet or who visit often, at most once a day and with a cooldown.
  • Rewards from the catalog are personal, one-time vouchers; unused points come back if a voucher expires.

The prize wheel

The wheel has between 2 and 12 slices. Each slice is a coupon, a number of loyalty points or no prize, and has a weight that sets its chance. The result is drawn by the server with a cryptographic random number and stored with the spin, so it cannot be influenced from the app. Customers can see the probability of every prize.

  • Spins per day: one by default, up to ten, counted by the restaurant's local date.
  • A daily unlock time: spins open from a set local time each day.
  • Each prize can be limited per customer and by total stock. "No prize" slices are never limited.
  • Points prizes are credited straight away and expire like other points.

A coupon prize becomes a personal reward, valid for seven days by default and never beyond the end of its promotion. The customer gets a reminder a day before it expires. If an order that used it is cancelled, the reward is restored.

Joker offers

A Joker offer is a surprise. When a customer opens your website or app, the server checks whether they qualify:

  • Dormant: no visit or order for a set number of days (14 by default).
  • Frequent: at least a set number of visits within a short window (4 visits in 7 days by default).

A qualifying customer then has a chance of winning, 25% by default. There is at most one decision per customer per day, and a customer who has won waits through a cooldown (30 days by default) before they can win again. Every decision is stored.

The prize is a personal offer, valid for 24 hours by default: buy the qualifying items and get the cheapest eligible reward items free, at their base price. An item given free never also counts as one of the items bought.

A rewards menu paid in points

Instead of using points as a discount, a restaurant can offer a rewards menu: each reward is one menu item with a points price.

  1. The customer chooses a reward. The server checks the balance, that the item is available at the chosen branch and that the price has not changed.
  2. The points are deducted and a personal, one-time voucher for that item is issued, valid for 24 hours.
  3. At checkout the voucher pays for one unit of the item at its base price; add-ons are paid as usual.
  4. Two hours before it expires the customer is reminded. If it expires unused, the points are returned and the customer is told.

What stays under your control

  • The wheel and Joker offers can be switched on or off for each restaurant.
  • Coupon prizes must point to a published promotion before the wheel can be published.
  • Rewards cannot be claimed by blocked customers.
  • All reward vouchers, wheel spins and Joker decisions are recorded per customer.
